FCO Letters: A Plain-Language Definition
FCO stands for flat cut out. FCO letters and logos are solid shapes cut from sheet material and mounted individually or to a carrier panel. They do not have the hollow return, face and internal lighting components used in channel letters. That makes FCO a useful non-illuminated option for lobby identity, wall logos, wayfinding, room identification and selected exterior applications.
What makes FCO signs useful is the range of materials, thicknesses, finishes and mounting methods available. The artwork still has to suit the chosen material: very thin strokes, small counters and closely spaced pieces may need a different thickness, a carrier or a simplified production arrangement. The wall surface, viewing distance, indoor or outdoor exposure and desired projection should be reviewed together.

Aluminum Composite: Aluminum composite combines thin aluminum faces with a core to create a relatively lightweight, smooth sign component. It can suit selected indoor and outdoor applications, but thickness, edge treatment, finish, attachment and site exposure should be confirmed for the actual project.

Brushed Metal: Solid or faced metal can provide a brushed, satin, polished or painted appearance. The metal type, grain direction, edge finish, thickness and mounting method should be specified on the proof because each one changes the finished look.

Wood Laminate: Wood or wood-look laminates can add warmth to interior branding. The visible face, exposed edge, backing material and cleaning conditions should be reviewed so the selected construction matches what visitors will see up close.

Acrylic: Acrylic supports crisp cut edges, detailed shapes and a wide range of face colors and finishes. Clear, opaque, painted and layered treatments behave differently, so samples and wall contrast are useful when appearance is important.

Choose FCO when the project needs solid, non-illuminated letters or logo shapes with a controlled material and mounting profile. Choose channel letters when the design needs fabricated letter bodies and internal illumination.
